Ethics + CelTrust
A lot of marketing companies (especially companies dealing with search engine optimization) lose track of where they stand ethically in the market. And it is easy to do, because there aren’t many laws against unethical marketing practices nor is the internet is old and wise in detecting the latest methods (yet).
Generally business-to-business companies do not need to publicize where they stand on the issue of ethics, but from reviewing a lot of CelTrust’s competition, many companies aren’t publishing exactly where they stand (if you get my drift).
What’s Unethical?
CelTrust breaks down search engine optimization ethics into 3 categories: blackhat, grayhat, and whitehat.
Blackhat SEO:
Blackhat techniques utilize spamming mass amounts of forums, guestbook’s, and other websites to build backlinks. These websites found by doing mass searches on a single keyword and using the top ranking websites. The Blackhat back-link websites are often websites which serve incoherent data which is unreadable to humans, but still readable to search engines. These sites serve no purpose to people except to attempt and get AD Clicks.
Grayhat SEO:
Grayhat SEO uses semi-legitimate websites, but still uses automated methods for building backlinks. Grayhat is often what people are sold on from many SEO sites because it warrants a quick return on ranking. However, Grayhat seo is still detected by Google, and your ranking will not stick. Even worst, with both Grayhat and Blackhat, your website may be removed or put in the search engines “blacklist”.
Whitehat SEO:
Whitehat SEO is the methods that CelTrust uses. We legitimately build backlinks, optimize web content to be optimized for both humans and search engines, and increase the quality of the content. Fortunately for whitehat seo’ers, Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft are actively optimizing to find the best whitehat practices. So not only will you rank high, but you will also keep your rank and on more keywords!
Spam Policy
CelTrust has a strict spam policy. We think truly empathize with both the end user, and the servers which have to handle mail, and by this we mean: WE HATE SPAM. We don’t like getting it, we don’t like seeing it, and we hate dealing with it. That’s why CelTrust is proud to say that we are spam free.
Fortunately for many businesses, spam is taking a hard-hit. Recently, The state of Virginia determined that spam is not free speech, and this will declaration won’t be the end of the line. We expect to see much more legislation passed on this issue.
Conclusion
CelTrust doesn’t endorse the use of unethical marketing practices, or business practices. All of our work that we do for client’s abides by a strict policy CelTrust has in place. We do this both for our client’s name, and our own. Spam and unethical SEO practices can deeply hurt both rankings and reputation.
