Keep Windows Secure and Safe
Keeping your Windows XP System Secure and Safe
I always have people asking me why they get viruses, why they have pop-ups, and why their computers run slow. Honestly, many times it is something they don’t even realize. It really isn’t what they aren’t doing to keep it safe…it’s what they shouldn’t be doing in general. Keeping Windows safe, especially XP is not all that difficult. CelTrust offers a lot of DIY tips. Check them out if this blog doesn’t help you.
- Use Windows Update and keep your system updated
- Make sure you’ve installed the latest Service Pack
Keeping your system updated is essential to enabling your computer to run as smoothly, as stably, and as fast as possible. Updates can contain a lot of security features that will prevent hackers, and identity thieves from attacking your system.
- Use a pop-up blocker
- If your browser has an anti-phishing option…use it!
Newer internet browsers like Mozilla’s Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 contain many security features that also help keep you and your system safe. Not only that but there are also a lot of fun features/ad-ons that can make surfing the net fun!
- Use A Firewall and an Anti-Spyware/Adware program
- Run the Anti-Spyware program anytime you think you might have a problem
- Make sure your Firewall always has the latest Virus Definitions
- I suggest using the Firefox browser instead of Internet Explorer.
Firewalls are your main guard against viruses, trojans, and malicious attacks on your computer. Anti-Spyware programs get rid of Spyware and Adware that allows people to track your daily activities on the computer. Spyware can also slow your computer down big time!
One more tip: don’t visit sites that you are unfamiliar with, or that ask you to download weird software packages. Many times these sites and their required software can contain viruses, trojans, and spyware.
